The benefits of laparoscopic surgery are clear but when complications occur, they tend to be serious. With the rapid onset of new technologies and techniques in laparoscopic surgery, awareness, teamwork, training, communication, and counseling are essential aspects of risk management to ensure patient safety. This lecture aims to classify complications associated with laparoscopy according to surgical stages. It also aims to assess the incidence, the mechanisms, the presentations and to recommend methods for preventing and dealing with complications in laparoscopic surgery.
