From the barber shops to modern operating rooms, surgery has seen a big evolution and a wide fragmentation in different specialities. Taking as example foregut surgery, Prof DeMeester will show how the term “general surgery” is becoming obsolete and how the tight connection between knowledge, specialization and new technologies is giving raise to different sub-specialities.
